The Sawubona Project features works by 30 Black photographers whose works draw attention to the multiplicities that exist within Black life. Held at Daniels Spectrum, these works provide an intimate commentary on the Black Canadian experience. Each Photographer seeks to reclaim their self representation and create a space where Black life can be celebrated. Featured in this exhibition are works by Radcliffe "Ruddy" Roye, lent to us by Dr. Kenneth Montague from his collection at Wedge Curatorial Projects.

The Sawubona Project showcases photography and video works that explore a range of themes including:- the Black experience and our histories, Black bodies, Black love and family, joy, fatherhood, identity, nature, Afro-futurism, care-free Blackness, Black masculinity, social and societal issues, standards of beauty, pain, pleasure and self esteem.

As a grouping, the works in this exhibition highlight the diverse nature of being Black in the context of contemporary Canadian society, while providing a glimpse of 'what it means to be Black' through the eyes of Black Creatives. The Sawubona Project was part of The Heard Festival. The headliner for the festival was Young Paris, the US based musician signed to ROCNATION.

The collection of stills is curated by Zviko Mhakayakora and SoTeeOh, and will serve as a timely manner that Black Art Matters. This exhibition was generously sponsored by Jordon Veira.
